2014 – Present: PhD Student, Kinesiology - University of Victoria, Faculty of Education,                   Exercise Science, Physical and Health Education

·         I am active in the population health research community.  I am currently developing expanding my capacity for research and gaining a deeper understanding of multiple approaches to the study of education, health, safety and physical activity in the context of work, industry, community, school, and sport.

2017: Learning and Teaching Higher Education Graduate Certificate - University of Victoria,           Faculty of Education, Educational Psychology and Leadership Studies

·         The program combined knowledge about teaching and learning across the disciplines to create a graduate fluent in the foundation principles of post-secondary and adult instruction, course design and curriculum development.

2014: Master of Science, Kinesiology - University of Victoria, Faculty of Education, Exercise           Science, Physical and Health Education

·         Graduated with a proven ability to conduct health research through literature searching, document analysis, one-on-one interviewing and transcription using QSR NVivo, data entry, data analysis, and findings dissemination.

​

1994: Bachelor of Arts: Major in English & Major in Political Science - University of Victoria

·         Trained in a practical approach to the concepts of public policy analysis, comparative case study, sampling, surveys, and application of analytical techniques to issues in public policy implementation.

 

Project Management Course Work

 

2018 May: Mitacs - Foundations of Project Management II

·         Gain in-depth knowledge of project planning and management with the goal of transferring these skills directly to the workplace. Experiment with the ideas presented in a group-learning environment. Learn planning methods to reduce risk and manage crises.

2017 March: Mitacs - Foundations of Project Management I

·         Instructed in the best practices of successful project managers, from leading a project team to meeting crucial deadlines.  Practiced in the skills needed to successfully take a project from beginning to end.

Health, Safety & Mining Related Education

​

2018 March: EduMine - Health and Safety Representative Training

·         Health and Safety Representatives play a pivotal role in keeping workplaces healthy and safe. By representing workers in their area of responsibility, health and safety representatives provide a means for workers to raise health and safety issues within their workplace, and follow a process with managers to resolve them.

​

2018 February: EduMine - Safety Risk Management

·         Basic information and risk management tools that can be used by individuals to look after their own well-being at work, or to use as they build a risk management program that will enable the proactive prevention of unwanted events in their workplaces.

​

2018 February: EduMine - 360° Introduction to the Mining Industry

·         This course covers what is current, topical and important in today's mining industry. A comprehensive overview of the mining industry.

​

All three courses can be applied to the University of British Columbia's Certificate in Mining Studies (CMS)

Work Experience

 

2018 April-Present: Occupational Health Advisor – Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum           Resources,Health and Safety Branch

·         Research, review and assist in the development of Ministry publications specific to Fatigue Risk Management and Musculoskeletal Disorder Prevention

·         Provide research assistance to developing scientifically based research documentation to support proposed changes to the BC Mines Act.

2017 August-2018 April:  Co-op Level 2, Ergonomic Position – Ministry of Energy, Mines and        Petroleum Resources, Health, Safety and Permitting Branch

·         Assist the Senior Inspector of Mines Ergonomics in the compliance and enforcement of health and safety under the authority of the Mines Act.

·         Reviewed health and safety programs specific to MSD prevention and ergonomics.

·         Provided MSD prevention training to ensure compliance with mining legislation and sound ergonomic principles.

·         Experience developing and modifying MSD training program.

·         Proven capacity to teach the application of risk management tools and ergonomic principles to workers in the BC Mining industry.

·         Demonstrated ability to organize resources, plan and prioritize tasks in order to effectively meet objectives.

2012 January-Present: Sessional Instructor – Faculty of Education, Exercise Science, Physical           and Health Education

·         Work collaboratively with other instructors, understands the broad determinants of health, facilitates active learning, creates a safe learning environment, and evaluates student learning.

​

2017 March-Present:  Principal Investigator - Physical Literacy Training and Mentoring for               Recreation, Health, Sport, Education, and Early Childhood Educators

·         Determine the impact of a physical literacy interventions on multiple providers’ knowledge, confidence level and implementation of physical activity and physical literacy opportunities when working with children and youth.

2016 January-2017 March:  Researcher - Funded Departmental Curriculum Review Project

·         Tasked with developing the framework for a course that provides the experiences necessary for our undergraduates to utilize evidence-based teaching strategies and knowledge to enhance physical literacy in the settings in which they interact with children and youth during and after their degree completion.

​

2015 April-August: Research Analyst - Co-op: Peninsula Recreation Commission

·         Responsible for the primary community engagement, and reporting to the Peninsula Recreation Commission (PRC).  Synthesised data and wrote the foundational framework document for the PRC’s 5-year strategic plan.

​

2014 July-September: Contract Research Consultant - CRD

·         Contracted by the Salt Spring Island (SSI) Parks and Recreation Commission (PARC) to engage the SSI community in order to evaluate, develop, test, and place interpretive health signage in Duck Creek Park.

​

2013 May-December: Evaluation Coordinator - Co-op: CRD/UVIC

·         Organized data collection, evaluation, development, and implementation of a pilot interpretive health signage program on Salt Spring Island.

​

2011 September – 2012 December: Teacher Assistant - Faculty of Education, Exercise                   Science, Physical and Health Education

·         Responsible for grading tests, exams, essays and projects.  Assist in the development of course content and teach specific content
